Feeling so tired after a busy day at work, I just wanted to be alone and have a quick nap on the couch before completing a few tasks.

Within a few minutes, I was in dream land, enjoying my short nap. Suddenly I felt his little fingers poking my mouth, eyes and ears.

I tried to get my 2-year-old son’s hand off me so I could manage a few more minutes of sleep. He kept poking and muttering some baby talk that I was not ready to give attention to.

This continued for about 3 minutes when I finally decided to carefully listen to the baby sounds, he was muttering while still keeping my eyes closed with the hope of getting a few more minutes of sleep.

Suddenly, I figured he was saying “mouth, ears, eyes” as he touched my face. He was practicing what he had just been taught at the crèche. I opened my eyes with a smile. Suddenly, there was a paradigm shift.

What I thought was a major disturbance turned out to be the most beautiful words in my ears when I decided to be patient and give it some attention. Don’t fight everything; sometimes all you need is to calm down and just listen.
